Today the weather has been glorious so we took a picnic to the nearby Le Lac de Pont which is a neraby lake formed behind a dam built in 1832 to control the water flow into the Canal de Bourgogne allowing them to increase the draught, and hence size, of the canal boats. The lake is obviously very popular with the Semur locals as there were a number of family groups also enjoying the weather.
While we were there a very fast plane crossed overhead, much faster than any of the many other jets that cross above us on their way to Paris, and travelling in a totally different direction. We wondered if it might have been the shuttle returning to the States so if anyone can find any info on the track it took we’d appreciate knowing.
As well as photos of the Le Lac de Pont today we have uploaded a couple of the many French signs that keep us amused. One is from the top of the doggy do stands that are dotted around and refers to what you should do with “les dejections canines”. The second is a very French way of saying there’s no lines painted on the road “absence de signalisation horizontale”. Jan also wanted a photo of the duck’s nest added, I resisted adding the photo she took of the duck as well !!
I’ve reinserted the panorama photo that was on yesterday’s blog so that you know what it is – our village of Semur showing the cathedral and the four towers that protected the village during the Middle Ages. The tower on the very left side has a major crack running all the way from top to bottom so those in Christchurch should rest assured there are other parts of the world with serious structural damage !! Graham Mackrill - for some reason I don't have your email address with us but hope that the AMCA 50th jubilee went well last weekend.
