Contact Phone Number

While we're overseas we will have a Travelsim mobile with us as the international mobile call costs from Telstra are too expensive. To call us from a mobile simply dial +37257173206. To call from a land line call the international exit code (e.g. 00 from NZ and 0011 from Aust) then 32757173206. Remember France is 8 hours behind Aust and 10 hours behind NZ.

26th May - Noyers

Jeudi 26 Mai (Thursday)

Today we decided to visit Noyers, another well preserved Cite Medieval (medieval town) . We took a roundabout route and discovered a town called Montreal on the way. Montreal is a beautiful town with small lanes and alleyways and looks very similar to Vezelay but without the tourist shops, in fact it was hard to see what kept the town alive. There were a lot of very large houses but only a post office and one restaurant. Further on we came to Noyers which, as it was described in the guide books, consisted of 14th and 15th Century buildings, typical examples of the Bourgogne style ((similar to the English Tudor architecture). We had lunch in a lovely restaurant and were joined by a large table of film crew who were filming a documentary in the town today.

The photo of the cobblestones shows what most of the streets around this area look like. Not really designed for high heels! I’m not having as much trouble as many of the motorcyclists though! (It’s a very rough ride!). The streets are not only cobbled and uneven but they are really narrow. As we sit in the bar, on the street, we are constantly amazed at the size of the trucks which pass through Semur. There is often a matter of centimetres between them and the cars coming the other way, if the cars are game enough to keep going and not stop to let the trucks through. The corners are the most interesting as many of the trucks are extremely long  and barely fit on their own let alone with cars parked as only the French can park!

We have clocked up just under 700kms in our trusty diesel Peugot 206+ and it only used ½ tank – Eu39 worth. It’s no wonder the French prefer diesels even if they sound like tractors. The hardest thing has been to remember which side the driver gets in !

Tomorrow we will be gathering up our belongings in readiness for our early departure on Saturday morning. We catch the TGV back to Paris where we board a flight to Nice. Our next blog will be from Cagnes sur Mer (probably Sunday internet connection dependant).

Campbell had his final exam today so he is flying down to join us for a week when we get to Sablet in Provence.

… and the ducklings still haven’t hatched.
