This morning Jan & Chris walked to the village with the intention of visiting the boucherie for something for dinner but discovered the fish mongers van parked next to the grocers so instead we had trout (truite) for dinner. After a walk to the local cemetery (Jan has a thing about cemeteries !) we (Jan & Chris - Cambell has not yet surfaced) drove to Vaison-la-Romaine which is a smallish village about 12kms from Sablet where the rich Parisians have their holiday homes. The village is built on the banks of the Ouveze river and dates back to 1st century BC. It was quiet and enjoyable today but we can only imagine what it must be like in the middle of the tourist season. Today it was well into the 30's so the summer tenperatures would make it unbearable withe the crowds.
We returned home at 1pm to find Campbell just surfacing.
After lunch we decided to walk to Seguret about 3kms away from Sablet. Once there Campbell decided we should climb to the top of the hill above the town to visit the ruins of the ancient chateaux. When we finally gor there we discovered a sign saying the ruins were off limits "acces aux ruins interdit" so all in all it was a useful cardio exercise.
Tonight we have dined on the truite bought at the market but Campbell expired at about 7pm so he is now in bed - how do teenagers rise so late and still get tired so early ??
Tomorrow is our last day in Provence before we head to Paris on Saturday. We filled up the trusty Peugot today before we give it back and for a total of 1250kms we have spent 80 euros on diesel. If only the BMW was that economical !!
The trout meal sounded pretty nice - hope you enjoyed it. What are you doing in France Campbell when you only see it for 6 hours a day. What a waste. You have all those hours to sleep on the plane going home!
